Our Story: How Chomklong Began

People often ask us how Chomklong started. The short answer is: we love to travel, and we love this place, and one day those two things came together. The longer answer is below — and it starts, as good stories do, on the road.

Two travellers come home

We are EH (Nuntanut) and OO (Nuttamon). For years we travelled — the way you do when you're young and curious — and the trips we remembered most weren't the famous sights. They were the people. The host who drew us a map on a napkin. The family who fed us when we were strangers. The small, kind moments that made a foreign place feel, for a night, like home.

We carried that feeling back to Pak Chong, the quiet district at the foot of Khao Yai where we have roots. And we started to wonder: what if we could give travellers that same feeling here? Not a hotel. A home.

2019: the first guests

In 2019 we opened our doors. It was modest — a few rooms, a garden, a lot of coffee and a lot of hope. We learned everything the hard way: how to fold a fitted sheet at speed, which fruit was sweetest at the morning market, how to talk a nervous first-time traveller into staying one more night (it usually worked).

What we found was that people didn't just want a bed. They wanted to slow down. They wanted green air, an unhurried morning, a local friend who'd tell them where the elephants had been seen this week. So that's what we built around.

We didn't set out to run a business. We set out to make people feel at home. The business followed.

What we believe

A few things have stayed true from the very first guest:

  • Home, not a hotel. We'd rather you felt like family than like a customer.
  • Slow is good. Mornings here have no rush in them, and that's on purpose.
  • Local matters. We buy from the market, work with our neighbours, and send you to the people we trust.
  • Small and mindful. By staying small we can stay kind — to our guests, to the village, and to the green that surrounds us.

Sustainability, quietly

We don't make a big noise about it, but it matters to us. Staying small means we can tread lightly: less waste, local food, supporting the people and the landscape that make Khao Yai what it is. When you stay with us, you become a small part of a gentler way of travelling — one that gives back to the place instead of just taking the view.

Thank you for being here

Every guest who's walked through our garden has helped write this story — and there's plenty of it still to come. If you're reading this from far away, we hope you'll come and add a chapter of your own.

Come and stay, or just say hello. Our door, and the kettle, are always on.
